THE DARKER SIDE OF BEAUTY
I find beauty in what remains hidden, in darkness, in the unconventional and in the ambiguous.
My work is driven by a fascination with aesthetics and the many sides of human existence. People are rarely as simple as they appear. Beneath the visible surface lie contradictions, vulnerabilities, desires and darker aspects of the human psyche. These are the spaces I am drawn to explore.
Through photography, visual art, fashion and literature, I create work that moves between beauty and unease, attraction and alienation, the familiar and the obscure. There may be something occult in its appearance, yet it remains deeply connected to the human condition.
I want my work to evoke something in the viewer — a feeling, a thought, a moment of recognition or simply a sense of fascination. Provocation has its place, too. Sometimes an image or an idea needs to unsettle us, challenge our expectations or draw us out of our reserve.
I am interested in the stories that remain untold, in unconventional perceptions of beauty and in the image of people who seem lost, abandoned or caught somewhere between different worlds.
FLOTHIC is an independent artistic practice. I follow my own interests, experiment with materials and forms, and explore subjects because they fascinate me. Commercial success is welcome, but it is not the reason I create. The freedom to follow an idea without having to justify it through its marketability is essential to my work.
FLOTHIC is not about explaining the darkness. It is about exploring what can be found within it.
BIOGRAPHY
FLOTHIC (aka Florian vB) is an independent artist and musician exploring the darker dimensions of beauty, human nature and existence.
Born on February 3, his path has crossed the study of human behaviour, social habitus and the complexities of the human psyche — an encounter with the human condition that raises at least as many questions as it answers.
Working across photography, visual art, fashion and literature, FLOTHIC moves between different forms of expression, exploring the boundaries between the visible and the hidden, the familiar and the obscure.
His artistic practice extends beyond the studio into concerts, exhibitions and readings.
